The workforce behind the cloud
Data centers are physical industrial projects. They need electrical work, cooling, structural construction, fiber installation, testing, maintenance, and safe operations. Recruiting tradespeople therefore changes both the speed of the buildout and who captures its employment benefits.
A high-road response would expand paid apprenticeships and community-college partnerships, recognize portable credentials, protect jobsite safety, and plan housing and transportation around construction hubs. Companies should also show how many roles are local and durable, what workers earn, and whether public subsidies leave behind training capacity that communities can use after a project is complete.
