These standards explain what earns a place in the briefing, how the evidence is handled and what readers can expect from every AIImpactLab story.
Story selection
AIImpactLab covers demonstrated or credibly documented effects of artificial intelligence on people, institutions, markets and the environment. Consequence, evidence quality, geographic relevance and public value matter more than novelty or hype.
A story may appear in several impact clusters when its effects cross domains. Cluster labels organize the record; they are not a claim that an issue has only one cause or consequence.
Sources and evidence
Every story links to the source material on which the analysis is based. Primary evidence—research papers, official documents, regulatory filings, public datasets and direct institutional statements—is preferred whenever available.
Source links do not equal endorsement. Company claims, press releases, preprints and early findings are described for what they are, and stronger language is reserved for stronger evidence.
Analysis and uncertainty
Briefings separate the documented event from AIImpactLab’s interpretation of its significance. Causal claims are avoided when the evidence only supports association, projection or an institutional position.
Important limitations, contested findings and unresolved questions remain visible. Concision is never a license to turn uncertainty into certainty.
Use of AI tools
AI tools may assist with organizing source material, comparing documents, copyediting and production. A human editor selects the source, assigns impact clusters, checks links and factual statements, reviews the analysis and approves publication.
AI-generated text is not treated as evidence. The linked source record—not a model response—remains the basis for every factual account.
Independence and conflicts
AIImpactLab is an independent editorial project. Coverage is not purchased, and source organizations do not receive advance approval of analysis. Material sponsorship, financial interests or other conflicts that could reasonably affect a story will be disclosed with that story.
Updates and corrections
Material errors are corrected promptly and transparently. Clarifications may be added when the original wording is accurate but incomplete or open to misunderstanding. The dedicated corrections policyexplains how to submit a concern and how it is reviewed.
