What the students actually proposed
The model policy calls for AI literacy when students first receive classroom devices, prohibits AI on graded tests, and bars using it to write assignments while allowing editing, brainstorming, and study help after eighth grade. Allowed use would be cited, and students could be asked to demonstrate mastery through discussion, handwritten work, or oral defense. Teachers would publish clear AI rules every semester.
The enforcement provisions are equally important. A detector flag would not be enough to punish a student; two school officials would review suspected misuse and teachers would investigate personally. The students also proposed that school chatbots route emotional-support needs to responsible adults instead of attempting to act as counselors. The plan now goes to school leaders as a model, not a binding national rule.
