Primary-source evidence
Assess the age, scope and verification status of assurance evidence rather than treating a monitoring label as proof of effective prevention.
- Organizations deploying autonomous coding agents
- Independent evaluators and people affected by agent actions
- Independent confirmation of the reported production fixes
- How effectively current monitoring catches unfamiliar harmful behavior in time
- Version-specific retesting could become an important contractual obligation.
- Publishing limitations may improve trust even when it makes short-term safety claims less flattering.
What this should change in a contract
Our proposed contract requirement is a short assurance record: tested version, permitted actions, material exclusions, repair status and next review trigger. This is an AIImpactLab recommendation, not an existing universal standard.
The expensive mistake would be applying a finding outside its tested scope in either direction. Historical weaknesses do not prove current vulnerability; a fix announcement does not prove that all relevant failure modes were retested.
