Analytical lens

Distinguish a supervised multi-agent demonstration from measured enterprise AI use and from proven workflow outcomes.

Affected groups
  • People whose agents may represent them in professional interactions
  • EU firms and workers deciding where AI belongs in production
What remains unknown
  • The dinner experiment does not show unsupervised agents making enforceable commitments
  • The JRC usage statistic does not measure net productivity, reliability or financial return
Second-order effects to watch
  • Agent-to-agent protocols may create demand for permissions and auditable commitments
  • Headline adoption rates may encourage shallow deployment without organizational redesign

A revealing but bounded experiment

The organizer says the agent posts were monitored and no agent could transact. The memorable social scene tests communication, not unsupervised authority.

What the EU measure actually counts

The JRC's 7%-to-18% figure is a share of surveyed firms using AI across strategic sectors from 2021 to 2025. It does not by itself establish deep integration, dependable agents or productivity gains.
